Evelyn Janice Powers

Evelyn Janice Powers was born in Aliceville, Kansas on September 2, 1927. She passed on December 2, 2016 in Puyallup, Washington at 89 years of age surrounded by her family and friends. A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 10:00am, at Calvary Community Church in Sumner. Evelyn is survived by her husband, Robert. Evelyn and “Bob” were married for 68 years. She is survived by 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn is also survived by special friends, Sylvia and Judy, and many other family members who are not related. Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Ellis and her parents, Robert and Lucille. Evelyn was born at home in Kansas. Her family travelled to Washington and Oregon several times before the family settled in Puyallup where she graduated from high school. She married Bob in 1948 and they began their life together. Evelyn was an excellent homemaker who sewed, crocheted, gardened, and who took good care of their children. In 1962, Bob and Evelyn and family moved to Puyallup where they raised their family. Evelyn volunteered at the Puyallup Food Bank from 1965 to 2010, when Parkinson’s Disease began taking away her mobility. Evelyn and Bob square danced for many years. She loved crafts and handiwork. Evelyn had a great sense of humor and cared about everyone she met. She was selfless and never complained. She was generous and thought about others before herself. A special thanks to family, friends, and dedicated caregivers for providing support and encouragement to Evelyn and her family during her challenge with Parkinson’s Disease.
