JAMES E. (JIM) ERWIN Kingsport- James (Jim) Erwin passed away unexpectedly due to an apparent heart attack on Wednesday morning (April 19, 2017). Jim is celebrating today with his mom and dad in Heaven He was born in Erwin, TN and had lived in this area the majority of his life. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and received his B.S. degree in microbiology from East Tennessee State University. Jim proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force and went onto retire as a major in the United States Army Reserves. He played a major role as chairman in helping establish the Kingsport Veterans Memorial. Jim was an avid UT fan. He was fondly remembered by his children and grandchildren as "Daddy Jimmy". He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac "Gene" and Marjorie "Marge" Erwin. Jim Erwin is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth "Edie" McAbee, Sara Lawson and husband, Jim, Kelly Brown and husband, Allan; his grandchildren, Dustin McAbee, Shelbie McAbee, Patrick Gaines, Brianne Gaines, Derrick Brown, Kellen Brown, Jaylee Brown, Isaac Call, Jacob Lawson, and Raylan Lawson; his great grandchild, Aubrey McAbee; his sister, Cindy Holt and husband, Mike; nieces, Emily Dougherty and Sarah Good; a nephew, Michael Holt; great nieces and great nephew, Tripp Dougherty, Harper Dougherty, Kellan Good, Lleyton Good, Rowan Good; along with several aunts, uncles, neices and nephews and his O'Charley's family. A military graveside service will take place on Friday (April 21, 2017) at 1:45 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the United States Air Force Color Guard in charge of military rites. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday (April 21, 2017) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsport Veterans Memorial Fund, 301 Louis Street, Suite 303, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
