Denver Roy Johnson of Jonesborough passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. He was born in Scott Co, Virginia to the late "GM" Golden Mitchell Johnson and Helen Pearl Ketron. After attending Blountville High School, he served in the Army with his twin brother, Donald during the Korean War, where they were stationed together in Japan. Denver and Helen Johnson raised three sons together, Tony, Greg and Scott. He retired from the Kingsport Glass Plant in 1994 after 30+ years of service. He enjoyed gardening, playing his guitars, and watching all sports, especially baseball. He was a member of the Optimist Club and enjoyed several years of coaching little league baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: G.M. Johnson, Jr; Calvin Johnson; Lawrence Johnson; O.M. Johnson; and Donald Johnson; his sister Pauline Ketron Johnson, two infant brothers, and his son Gregory Allen Johnson. Surviving are Helen Whitaker Johnson of Jonesborough, Tony and Debbie Johnson of Kingsport, Scott and Michele Johnson of Mt. Juliet, Sean Patrick and Susan Johnson of Kingsport, Candace, Jonathan and Stella Jean Mash of Mt. Juliet, and Lyndsey Johnson and Brad Nuckols of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Carter Trent Funeral Home. A procession to East Lawn Cemetery will follow where a military graveside service will be conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 and his nephew, Pastor Steven Johnson. Pallbearers will be: Scott Johnson, Sean Patrick Johnson, Jonathan Mash, Brad Nuckols, Rigby Robert Harvey, and Mitchell Johnson. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Denver's neighbors and family. The family also wants to specially thank Bernice Johnson for her unwavering support and care Denver. Bernice's support and care no doubt resulted in a higher quality of life for Denver over the past couple of years. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
