Bernard "Ben" N. Carifo, 64, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 in the Tidewell Hospice House, Bradenton, Florida. Born Nov. 29, 1949 in Sewickley, PA, he was the son of the late Dominic E. Carifo. He received his college degree from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, was retired from a career as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam era. He enjoyed sailing, boat-building, hiking and flying with special friends. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of thirty-six years, Linda Shematek Carifo, Bradenton, FL; mother Olivia D. Carifo, Aliquippa, PA; three sisters, Karen Carifo, Las Vegas, NV, Roxanne Carifo, Warren, PA., Annette Carifo Rossi (Steve), Rockaway, NJ; a brother, James Carifo, Aliquippa, PA.; five nephews and two nieces, two great-nieces, a great-nephew, and mother-in-law Ann B. Shematek, formerly of Aliquippa, PA. Burial arrangements are private. Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation or to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
