Rosemary Smith
July 9th, 1964 - August 7th, 2016
Rosemary Smith Catherine Rosemary Holt Smith, 52, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 7th, 2016. She fought a courageous battle against cancer for over 19 months. She passed away peacefully at home with daughters Molly and Abby by her side. Rosemary was born in Blountville, TN to Mike and Joan Holt. She graduated from Sullivan Central in 1982 and graduated from ETSU in 1987 with a degree in Education. Rosemary was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and teacher. She touched countless lives throughout her 52 years here on Earth, and she will be missed greatly by everyone. Rosemary taught for almost 27 years. She taught 3rd and 4th grade at Rock Springs Elementary School and 6th grade at John Sevier Middle School. Her entire life was about children, whether it was being a teacher, helping others, being an aunt and, most importantly, raising her own daughters. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and recently received the Order of the Rose. This award is given to teachers who have committed a lifetime of service to teaching. Rosemary enjoyed spending time with her family, going to church and anything to do with music. For the past 12 years the Smith family have attended First Baptist Church and prior to that were members at Litz Manor Baptist. Rosemary was always involved in singing at church and enjoyed nothing better than worshiping her Lord and Savior. Her grandparents Leland Holt, Ella Kate Holt, her grandfather Cecil Bouchillon, mother-in-law Teresa Smith, and aunt Linda Holt preceded Rosemary in death. Survivors include her grandmother Anne Bouchillon, parents Mike and Joan Holt, father-in-law Vernon Smith, her husband Chad Smith, daughters Molly and Abby Smith, brother Chris Holt and sister-in-law Kari Holt. Rosemary has several aunts and uncles, several nieces and nephews and many, many more cousins. The Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, August 13th at Dobyns-Bennett High School in the dome. We will gather to celebrate at 1pm with the service starting at 1:30. The service will include, eulogies, scripture reading, singing and a message by Dr. Marvin Cameron. A patient assistance fund has been set up through the Wellmont Foundation called the Rosemary Smith Cancer Assistance Fund. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to honor Rosemary. The fund will be used specifically within the main foundation to help all teachers, their spouses, or any member of their family should they be in need. The fund will also help any patient with any type of brain cancer. The establishment of this fund was very important to Rosemary, and the Smith family is honored that her name and this foundation will go on for many years helping others.
