Samuel A Slaughter, Jr.
June 16th, 1932 - October 18th, 2014
Samuel Allan (Al) Slaughter, Jr. of Sarasota passed away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on October 18, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Al and his twin brother, Charles Phillip Slaughter of Crystal River, were born in Winchester, VA on June 16, 1932. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel A, SR and Frances Finfrock Slaughter, his sisters Katherine Casilear and Lucille Flaherty and his first wife Arlene Weakley Slaughter, all of Winchester. Al joined the Army National Guard in 1950 and later the United States Air Force from which he retired in 1992. After his retirement, he moved to Sarasota and has been active traveling and enjoyed dancing with his longtime companion, Gwen Strickland with whom he resided. He is also survived by his daughter, Teresa Gail and her husband Mark Hendel of San Angelo, TX, his son, Samuel A III and his wife, Judith Slaughter, his granddaughter, Katherine Slaughter of VA and nieces, a nephew, and their families. Al will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 10 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite church or charity.
