Lamar Strickland Parrish
August 22nd, 1921 - December 20th, 2014
Lamar Parrish was born on Terra Ceia Island, Florida on August 22, 1921 to John and Thelma Strickland Parrish. He passed away on December 20, 2014 at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Kathleen Hampton Parrish, his daughter Pam Parrish of Parrish, Sister Lois Stephens of Sun City Center. Son-in – Law, Guy Taylor (Margo) of Bradenton, Grandson Jonathan Parrish Taylor (Jennifer) Great grandson Jackson Taylor, Great granddaughter Juliette Taylor, Grandson Mitchell Taylor (Lindsey) Great Granddaughter Cora Taylor all of Meridian, MS. Predeceased by Daughter, Betty Jo Parrish Taylor, Brothers, Preston Parrish and Joe Parrish. He was a direct descendant of Pioneer Family that the town Parrish was named for. He served in the US Coast Guard reserve during World War II. He was employed by Security Feeds for 34 years as a salesman. He served as a County Commissioner for Manatee County in the late 1970’s. A member of community to start the Parrish Fire Dept, the Parrish Civic Association and the Parrish Rural Health services, he was one of their first directors. His last 10 years of employment he was with the Manatee County Sheriff’s office as a process server. Lamar was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parrish for 70 years serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Building Committee when building the new Church and educational building. He loved God, family, the Parrish Community and the Outdoors, nature and wild life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. Services will be Tuesday 12/23/2014 First Baptist Church of Parrish Visitation 10:00 AM, Services 11:00 AM and immediate following interment at Fortner Cemetery, Parrish, Florida. Griffith Cline Funeral Home will be in charge of services. In lieu of flowers Lamar requested donations can be sent to the Fortner Cemetery Association, P. O.
