Elder Allen Hensley

Gate City, VA - Elder James "Allen" Hensley, 69 of Gate City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of the Daniel Boone Community of Scott County. He had pastored at Shelby Creek Primitive Baptist Church (15 years), Cox's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church (3 years) and at the time of his death, Allen was pastor of Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he had pastored for the last 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Minnie McDavid Hensley. Allen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Edwards Hensley; sisters, Jackie Tipton and husband Kenny and Jill Cleek; brother, Denny Hensley and wife Ethel; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church 1898 East Carters Valley Road Gate City, VA. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Elder Vernon McDavid, Elder Lonnie Townsend, Elder Paul Strong and Billy Jack Johnson officiating. Music will be provided by The Ward Family and Brenda Head. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Winston, Billy Hensley, Ronnie Edwards, Doyle Edwards, Larry Edwards, James "Babe" Lawson, Bob Peters and Marvin Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Tipton and all of Walnut Chapel Church.
