June Hollinsworth

June has packed her travel bag for the last time. She is now traveling to destinations unknown leaving on March 20, 2018. She loved to travel staying in or driving through every state in the USA, plus many foreign countries including Germany, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia, Holland, China, Panama, Greece and the Caribbean. Many of these travels were shared with her partner and travel companion, Phil Slaughter. June was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents Casper, "Cap" and Anna May, "Annie" Lanzinger in their home at 333 Palmer Street. There were already four siblings waiting for her. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School, Central Catholic High School and the University of Toledo. Her first employment was with John Hancock Insurance Company as a secretary. As a child around eight years old she took accordion lessons leading to entertaining at different socials. She and a close girlfriend formed an accordion duet and joined the U.S.O. which led to the rest of the story. While entertaining troops at Camp Perry she met her "to be husband" Hansel (Holly) Hollinsworth, Sr. who was then returning from being a POW in Germany. They were engaged in 1945, married in 1946. Holly was a career soldier serving 26 years in the Armed Services. Their first child, Tina was born in 1947 at Fort Ord, CA and second child, Holly, Jr. was born in 1951 at Fort Campbell, KY. June worked for the Federal Government (Civil Service) before retiring with 29 years of service. Her last position was at the Social Security Administration Office in Bradenton. Other service was at different military installations and other employment (due to military moving) was with private employers. In retirement she served for 13 years on the board of Casco Dorado and 3-1/2 years as the president. She and Holly, Sr. remained in Bradenton after Holly retired from the military in 1966. He died in October 1994 after 48 years of married life with June. After military retirement he was employed at Miller Trailers and at the Manatee County Golf Course. June did not bother getting maps or trip tiks as she did not know exactly where she was going. She says, "I'll be seeing you" to her daughter Tina and husband Skip Johnson, son Hansel, Jr. (Holly) and wife Gloria, grandson Shane and wife Maria Johnson, granddaughters Mia Mincher and Sadie June Johnson and to her traveling partner and daily companion of 20 years Charles "Phil" Slaughter. Services will be held at Griffith Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL, on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Skyway Memorial Gardens, 5200 US Highway 19, Palmetto, FL, at 12:45 p.m. Donations can be made in June's name online to tidewellhospice.com.
