William "Bill" Kilgore
September 5th, 1941 - April 15th, 2015
William "Bill" Kilgore, 73, of Weber City, passed away Wednesday April 15, 2015 at his home. He was born in Scott County, to the late Lindsey and Martha Kilgore. He was a 1961 graduate of Nickelsville High School where he played basketball. He then attended Berea College in Kentucky. At age 53, he retired from the Teamsters Union after working 21 years for Mason-Dixon and 11 years for Yellow Freight. He was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church. Bill loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. He was a loving, hardworking and generous man who had a great love for all kinds of music, with southern gospel music being his favorite. He played lead guitar for a gospel group, the Melody Men, for several years. Bill was a uniquely skilled guitar player who used the thumb/ finger method. He enjoyed going to the Pickin Parlor and also playing and singing at church. He enjoyed camping, biking and hiking. He was also a member of the Hill Country Campers. Bill was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Kiley Grace McMillian. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years, Janice Kilgore; two daughters, Tammy Herron and husband Tommy and Michelle McMillian and husband Randy; two grandsons, Tyler Herron and wife Rebekah and Tanner Herron; two granddaughters, Kelsey McMillian and Megan McMillian; and a great granddaughter, Emma Rose Herron; and his sister, Anita Kinard and husband, Talbert The family will receive friends from 4 till 7pm Friday (April 17th, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Ken Pierce and Pastor Donald Hanshew officiating. A graveside service will be conducted 11am Saturday (April 18th, 2015) at Holston View Cemetery. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:20am to follow in procession. Pallbearers will be Tommy Herron, Randy McMillian, Tyler Herron, Tanner Herron, Larry Vicars and Kyle Clayman. Honorary pallbearers are Darrel Campbell, Lowell Campbell, Fred Campbell, Jerry Kilgore, Larry Prevatte, Bill Jones, Donnie Jones, Bill Garland and members of the Hill Country Campers. Special thanks to the Wellmont Oncology staff, especially Dr. McElroy and his nurse Joyce. Also to Wellmont Hospice for their excellent care with special thanks to his nurse, Hope Hall. Any memorial donations may be be given to the Holston View United Methodist Church, Building Fund 174 Church St, Weber City, VA 24290 .
