DeWitt T. Mathews, was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 17, 1939, and positively impacted the life of everyone who ever met him. He became a resident of heaven on June 28, 2018. If you knew DeWitt, you would soon have made a friend. You would know he was a man’s man, a leader, one who had a genuine care for others and a pure heart. You would know how much he loved God, his family and life itself. DeWitt travelled the world. He was a soul-winner. He lived his life to demonstrate God’s love to others through his personal relationship with Jesus. He was a true friend. He was an avid Florida Gator and Tampa Bay Rays fan. When it came to his love and responsibility as a husband, father and granddad, there was never one better. DeWitt was a loving, devoted and faithful husband to his wife Rebecca, for 61 years. He loved Rebecca like every wife wishes their husband would love them. He is now re-united with his wife who preceded him in death by 21 months. He loved worshipping Jesus. He prayed and read God’s Word every day. DeWitt loved golf, Hershey’s milk chocolate, mountain views, long cruises, warm hugs, kind words and Fox News. DeWitt was a consummate Pastor. He Pastored churches for over 40 years. He Pastored Holmes Creek Baptist Church in Chipley, Fl., 1st Baptist Church of Port St. Joe, Fl., 1st Baptist Church of Palmetto, Fl., 1st Baptist Church of Lake Worth, Fl. (twice), Mabel White Baptist Church in Macon, Ga., and was Co-Founder and Co-Pastor of Church On The Rock, of Palmetto, Fl. DeWitt is survived by 2 children: his favorite child Tad (wife Ruth), Toni (husband Don). His son Tyler (wife Lisa) preceded him in death 12 years ago. DeWitt is survived by 10 grandchildren: Sunshine, Lawrence, Matt (wife Megan), Teresa, Micah (wife Stephanie), Matthew (wife Nicole), Ty (wife Allison), Sammie, Noah and Eli. He is survived by 8 great grandchildren: Lee, Mattison, Maddox, Easton, Maybrie, Everlee, Silas and Remy. He has a grandchild, Luke, and great grandchild, Titus, who eagerly awaited his arrival in heaven. DeWitt is now reunited with family and friends. He is with Jesus. Who could ask for more? A Memorial Service will be held at Church On The Rock, 1401 14th Ave W., in Palmetto, on Tuesday, July 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be given at: GriffithCline.com. In lieu of flowers, DeWitt requested that gifts be directed to Church On The Rock.
