Bobby Joe Hyatt, 74, of Gray, TN, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at Life Care Center of Gray, after an extended illness and complications associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Bob was born in Washington County, TN, and has been a resident of Gray for the past 46 years. He began working at an early age at various jobs, completing his career with 30 years of service at Sprint, having retired in 1996. Bob was active in the Tenneva Pioneer Club and the Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association. He was extremely supportive during his wife's servitude in various leadership positions in both organizations to include ITPA National President, 2004-2005. He enjoyed "tinkering" with old cars and yard work. He was a devoted, loving, caring, supportive and dedicated man to his wife and extended family. He was a member of Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge and Jericho Shrine Temple for several years. Bob also was a member of Edgefield Methodist Church in Piney Flats, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Eugene and Norma Lee Hyatt; 3 brothers, David "Oswald", Charles "Poss" and James Edward Hyatt. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy L. Hyatt; who also served unselfishly as his dedicated caregiver during his illness; 3 sisters, Mary Ruth Stewart, Norma Garrett and Janice Gilreath all of Piney Flats; 3 brothers, Raymond Eugene Hyatt, Jr. (Nancy) of Brookeville, FL, Mickey Wayne Hyatt of Piney Flats and Ben Allen Hyatt of Bluff City; aunt, Louise Taylor of Piney Flats; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Carter-Trent Funeral home in downtown Kingsport. Funeral services will follow with Minister Byron Paddock and Eulogist Jason Hyatt officiating. Music will be provided by Mandy Hyatt Snyder and Jim Hyatt. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at East Tennessee Cemetery in Blountville. Coworkers and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hyatt's honor to Hunger First, 829 Maple St, Kingsport, TN 37660 (ATTN: Michael Gillis). The family would like to extend a gracious thank you for the devoted, loving care shown to Bob by Dr. Robert Funke, 3400 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center, Life Care Center of Gray and the staff of Caris Hospice Healthcare. Carter-Trent Funeral home in Kingsport is proudly serving the Hyatt family.
