Vernon D. Russell

Vernon Doyle Russell, 63, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning (February 17, 2015) at his residence. He was born in Blackwater, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport for the past 8 years. Vernon retired from CSX with over 30 years of service. He loved to work on cars and was an avid University of Kentucky fan. Mr. Russell attended Way of Life Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Arneda Sanders Russell; his sisters, Carolyn Muncie and Gail Halsey; brothers, Alvin Russell and Thomas Russell. Vernon Russell is survived by his wife, Janet Russell; daughter, April Russell; son, Jeremy Russell; a grandson, Austin Russell; his siblings, Vera Parker, Shirley Hall, Juanita Wells, Phyllis Trent, Randy Russell, Wanda Sutton; his special and devoted caregivers who took care of him for many years, Sherry Russell and Autumn Goodman. Calling hours will be held on Sunday (February 22, 2015) from 1pm to 3 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the sister, Phyllis Trent. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday (February 22, 2015) at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Gibson, officiating. Music will be provided by the Way of Life singers. A burial will follow the funeral service on Sunday (February 22, 2015) at Flower Gap Cemetery in Blackwater, VA with family and friends serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Way of Life Baptist Church Youth Group, 319 Salvation Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 to further winning souls to Christ. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Russell family.
