Gene Shoemaker
September 14th, 1938 - December 15th, 2014
Gene Shoemaker, 76, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, December 15th, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 14, 1938 in Scott County, Virginia to the late Roy and Osie Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker served his country proudly, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Quebecor Printing and was a member of McPheeters Bend Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Ruth Lowe. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Duane Kimbler Shoemaker; three brothers, Curtis, Bobby and Emmett Shoemaker; four sisters, Frances Simmons, Patty Harvey, Marie Harlow, and Evelyn Dean; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris & Gary Edwards; special nieces, Kendra Edwards Hale (Curtis) and Bailee Edwards; special nephews, Ryan Edwards and Jake Edwards; several other nieces and nephews; along with many loving friends. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday evening, December 18th, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City with a services following in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Roberts, Rev. Darrell Fletcher and Minister Curtis Hale, officiating Military graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Church Hill Memory Gardens, Church Hill conducted by the American Legion Post #3 and Post #265. Pallbearers will be Ryan Edwards, Jake Edwards, Curtis Hale, George Gilreath, Ethan Roberts, Scott Gilbert, Bill Pendleton and Larry Shoemaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Palmer, J.D. Barrett, Gary Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, Gerald Edwards, Thomas Skelton, Fred Steadman, Ralph Osborne, Bill Carter, Tommy Skelton, Paul George, Don Anderson, Earl Gillenwater, Jim Hagie and Aubrey Price. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Smokey Mountain Health, especially Tom and Ben; Dr. Douglas Wright and staff; Dr. Michael Kauzlarich and staff, for their care and concern for Gene. Memorial contributions may be made to McPheeter's Bend Missionary Baptist Church, 430 Church Road, Church Hill, TN in memory of Gene. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Shoemaker family.
