Richard "Dick" Thomas Bogan, 77 of Kingsport went to be with his heavenly Father peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease at Greystone Healthcare, Blountville, TN. Born in Chicago, IL, he attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA and then the University of Iowa, Iowa City, earning his Doctorate in Chemistry. He was a veteran having served in the U.S.M.C. from '57-'59. Dick worked for Eastman Chemical Company for 30 years retiring as a Senior Research Associate in 1997. He was a member of the Kingsport Lions Club, was on the Board of Volunteer Blind Industries, was involved in Prison Ministry with the "Bill Glass Weekend of Champions" and was active in Mafair UMC with the Agape Sunday school class, the Men's Bible Study and with Interfaith Hospitality Network of Kingsport. Dick was a voracious reader of religious and historical books and loved to collect model trains. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Mary B. Sullivan Bogan; three brothers, George, John and Robert Bogan and a step-daughter, Vanessa Free. Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Sarah Robison Bogan of the home; children, Dan Bogan & wife Janet of Hillsborough, NC, Richard Bogan & wife, Elaina of Kinston, NC and Mollie Bogan Hollister of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Eliot, Kealy, Sophia, Andrew, Emily, and Lucy; his sister, Mary Lou Bogan Anderson of St. Charles, IL; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Mafair UMC, 1409 E. Center Street, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Kim Goddard and Dr. Victor Dingus, officiating. The funeral was private. The family would like to extend special Thanks to his special care giver, Dennis Darnell, the Dr's and staff of Preston Place II, Greystone Health Care and Caris Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mafair United Methodist Church, 1409 E. Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37664, Interfaith Hospitality Network, 601 Holston Street, Kingsport, TN 37660, the Kingsport Lions Club, PO Box 3366, Kingsport, TN 37664 or to a charity of your choice. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the family of Richard T. Bogan.
