William Lloyd Bryant
November 4th, 1919 - September 3rd, 2014
William Lloyd Bryant, Sr. passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the age of 94. He was born in St. Charles, VA on November 4, 1919 to the late Charles Alex and Rosa Lee Poteet Bryant. He retired from Giant Foods, Inc, Baltimore, MD with over 40 year experience. He was a Sgt in WWII having served in Europe from 1939 to 1945, receiving 5 medals. In retirement, he was active in Kingsport Senior Citizens, where he was a bowling and pool champion in the Senior Olympics, earning over 35 medals. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Jones Bryant; great granddaughter, Caylin Shae Baker; son-in-law, Steven Messer; sisters, Thelma Seals, Ruby Holbrook, Lorene Smullins and Margie Beach. He is survived by his children, Carol Clark & husband, Alan of Gate City, William "Bill" Bryant of Kingsport and Tammy Lee-Bryant Messer of Blue Springs, MO; granddaughters, Donna Baker & husband Rodney, Gina Davidson & husband Robert, all of Gate City and Toni Bryant Carroll & husband, Phillip of Austin, TX; great grandchildren, Sarah, Rachael, and Joshua Davidson and Emily and Audrey Baker, all of Gate City; sisters, Virginia "Gents" Burke of Jonesville, VA and Betty Louise Brooks of Kettering, OH. Special thanks to Dr. Bryan Arnette of Weber City Holston Medical Group for his excellent care and to Amedisys Hospice Care for their assistance to the family. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7 pm Friday (September 5, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm. Burial will be on Saturday in Mountain View Cemetery, Rural Retreat, VA with military honors. The family requests that no food or flowers be sent. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warrior Project. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Bryant family.
