Charles Curtis Tiller
December 4th, 1928 - May 5th, 2014
Charles Curtis Tiller, Sr., 85 went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, following a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. A native of Scott County, Virginia (Big Moccasin Community) he lived in Kingsport since 1960. He was of the Baptist Faith. After farming for many years, and working at W. B. Greene Hardware Store, Curtis went on and eventually retired from AFG Industries Greenland Plant after 28 years of faithful service. An extraordinarily gifted mechanic, he took great pride in his work and was always trying to pass his knowledge on to his sons. He loved his family and was always a good provider to his wife and children. He never met a stranger and always found great joy in being able to fix something for someone in need. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mamie (Maddux) Tiller; his parents, Noah and Rosa Tiller; brothers, Asa, Atlee, Roy, Earl, and Bert. Surviving are his daughter, Charlotte Tiller; two sons, Charles Tiller & wife Ruth Ann, Michael Tiller & wife Rhonda, all of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Aaron Tiller & wife, Jeri of Gray, Joshua Tiller & wife Paige of SC, and Megan Tiller of Knoxville; one great granddaughter, and two step-great grandsons; a special nephew, Carl Price, Jr. of Nickelsville; special niece, Carolyn Bishop & husband Daniel of Big Stone Gap; a loving sister-in-law, Jeanie Tiller of Kingsport ; along with several other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy 23N, Weber City, Virginia. A funeral service will follow at 8 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randall Spivey of State Line Baptist Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Lori Mellons and Dr. Scot Fleming, also from State Line Baptist Church. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be Charles Tiller, Michael Tiller, Aaron Tiller, Jason Sykes, Tyler Carter and Austin Bays. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Mays and Raymond Smith A special thank you goes out to all the staff of Preston Place for their care and compassion.
