July 31st, 1947 - April 8th, 2014
O Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning,our salvation also in the time of trouble. Isaiah 33:2 Kingsport - Charles A. Franklin, 66, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Chilhowee, TN and had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Charlie was a heavy equipment operator for TVA and retired from Air Products. He was a member of Friendship Chapel Church. Charlie enjoyed local stock car racing, working in his flower gardens and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Smokey Mountain Hospice, especially Erica and Dawn. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Hamby, parents Jessie and Lula Bell Hall Franklin; sister Marie Monk and brothers, Dan Franklin and Rex Franklin. Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, Ann Frazier Franklin of the home; daughters, Michelle Cook and friend Gene Douglas of Dayton, TN, Tonya Franklin, Dayton, TN, Sharon Dean and husband, Alex of Kingsport and Jessica Hurd and husband, Josh of Church Hill; sons, Charles Franklin, Jr. and wife , Tammy of Dayton, TN and Dave Kindle and wife Rachel of Kingsport; grandchildren, Brian Hamby and wife, Sophia, Bradley Hamby, Daniel Smith, Chris Hood, Gauge Franklin, Summer Dean, Holly Dean, Parker Dean, Lynnzi Hurd, Jaxson Hurd, Gabby Kindle and Cody Goode; great grandchildren, Maddux Hamby, Solona Hamby and Alexis Smith; sisters, Patricia Graham and husband, Walt and Carolyn Adams and husband, Tommy; brothers, Clifton Franklin and wife, Georgia and William Franklin and wife Liz; brother in law, Gerald Monk; father in law, Fred Frazier; sisters in law, Kay Devault and Libby White and husband, Drew; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Alton Satterfield. The family will receive friends from 12 noon - 1 pm Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. A Celebration of Life Service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joe Hill officiating. Music will be provided by Larry Sherfey . Pallbearers will be Dave Kindle, Alex Dean, Josh Hurd and nephews. A graveside service will follow at Old Kingsport Cemetery. Music will be provided by Carl Price. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the family of Charles Franklin.
