Rev. Kenneth W. Phillips "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and be with Christ, which is far better." Philippians 1:23 Church Hill- Kenneth Wayne Phillips, born in Hawkins County on November 5 1936, saved as a young man and called by the Lord to preach the gospel which he faithfully did for almost 55 years. He peacefully went to be with our Lord early Sunday morning (February 16, 2014). Rev. Phillips preached the gospel for over 40 years on WMCH radio. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elkaney and Inez Mallory Phillips; a baby daughter, Edith Christine; brother, Raymond Bruce Phillips; son-in-law, Rudy Walters. Rev. Kenneth Phillips is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Manis Phillips; children, Cathy Walters, Nathan Phillips and Becky, Reta Mellons and Terry, Rebecca Eye and Keith, Joyce Hernandez and Francisco, Sharon McMurray and Larry, Daniel Phillips and Jenny, Donald Phillips and Joanna; grandchildren, Bridget Kelly and Patrick, Rudy Matthew Walters and Shannon, Christy Miller and Tim, Mary Caldwell and Stephen, Martha Walters, Esther Walters, Philip Walters and Star, Debrah Walters, Christina Fields and Matthew, Jonathan Phillips and Billie, Rachel Phillips, Audrea Mellons, Hannah Dean and Josh, Elisabeth Eye, Timothy Eye, Michelle Bellamy and Tracy, Bethany McMurray, Laree McMurray, Jessica Mullins and Jason, Caroline Phillips, Emily Phillips, Jeremiah Phillips, Seth Phillips, Julie Phillips, Megan Phillips, Isaac Phillips, Caleb Phillips and Tyler Phillips; great grandchildren, Leah, Ethan, Jacob, Ruth, David, Luke, Rebecca, John, Bradley, Logan, Rudy Michael, Noah, Rayne and Rylee; sisters, Elizabeth Crawford and husband Rick, and Lorraine Hess; four expected great grandchildren and numerous others who called him "Papaw"; special cousin, Patsy Phillips; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or anytime at the residence. A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Gibson, Pastor Danny Sykes and Rev. Paul Manis officiating. Music will be provided by his grandchildren and The McMurray Brothers. A graveside service will be held 1 pm on Thursday February 20, 2014 at Longs Bend Church Cemetery. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 pm to go in to procession. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Phillips family.
