Carl Paris Hensley, 62, of Kingsport, TN passed away Saturday January 18 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. Carl was born in Hawkins County on August 20, 1951. He was self-employed by Carl's Plumbing for many years and also employed by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. Carl most enjoyed watching his grandchildren growing up and playing ball. He had a great love for raising horses and riding motorcycles but nothing compared to the love he had for his friends, his family, his children, his grandchildren and the love of his life, his wife Brenda. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Mary and Hubert Hensley, Brother-in-law Ray Johnson, Father-in-law Freeman Chappell, and Nephews Scott Shepherd and Steven Fields. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Brenda Hensley; children: Mia Hensley Cassidy and husband Jeff of Mt Carmel, Nikki Hensley Layne and husband Billy of Kingsport, Joey Allgood and wife Amber of Morristown, and Kelly West and husband Donnie of Kingsport; grandchildren: Bree Cassidy, Cole Layne, Brylee Layne, Hunter Layne, Emma Allgood and Maci West; sister: Janice Shepherd and husband Eddie of Mt Carmel; brothers: Archie Hensley and wife Sharon of Kingsport, James Hensley and wife Penny of Venezuela, and Roger Hensley of Kingsport; sisters-in-law: Judy McMillian and husband Jim of Kingsport, Connie Meade and husband Jerry of Kingsport, Debbie Johnson of Church Hill; brothers-in-law: James Christian and wife Terri of Church Hill and Steve Christian and wife Ladonna of Church Hill; mother-in-law: Marie Chappell of Church Hill; father-in-law: Robert Christian of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Jack and Debbie Tyler, Carl Moles, Gary Hess and Carlos Hammonds. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday January 21, 2014 at Cedar View Independent Methodist Church, 1421 Old Gibson Mill Road, Kingsport. A service will be held 2 pm at the church with Brother Travis Tyler and Dr. James Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Church Cemetery, Church Hill. Pallbearers will be Junior Moudy, Steve Hatfield, Steve Jones, Durrell Wise, Glen Spangler, Richard McDavid and honorary pallbearer's members of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. The family would like to send special thanks the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the staff of Wilcox Hall 3rd Floor at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for their kindness during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Valley View Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund C/O Shelby Begley, 3717 Carters Valley Road, Church Hill, TN 37642. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Hensley family.
