William Tinsley West, “Buzz”, 76, of Frankfort Kentucky, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 2, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. William “Buzz” West was born in Lexington, Kentucky to Oliver “Frank” West and Effie Hollingsworth-West who preceded him in death. He grew up in Lexington, graduated from Lafayette High School, and then was proud to serve his country in the Army from 1965 to 1967 after he was drafted. He used his GI bill benefits for college and went on to graduate from the University of Central Florida in 1972, majoring in Accounting and Marketing. Though Buzz prioritized fatherhood and family life, he had a successful career as a CPA, and was a true numbers man. He is survived by his tenacious and dedicated wife, Elizabeth “Liza” Hancock-West, who was lovingly at his side to the end. Married for 53 years, Buzz and Liza, raised their family in Tampa, Florida, and in May 2019 they returned to Kentucky to be near Liza’s family whom he loved dearly. Buzz was the true definition of a family man who above all else dedicated himself to being a wonderful father and grandfather. He had a loving heart and a fantastic sense of humor that will be carried on in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his three daughters, Lena West, Dorothy “Holli” West, Georgeanne West-Crabtree, his son Steven Barnes (Aimee), and his grandchildren Cole Crabtree, Caleb Crabtree, Haeleah Barnes, and Arora Barnes. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur “Art” West (Saundra), his sister Linda West-Williams (Mike), many nephews, nieces, and in-laws whom he thought of lovingly. Buzz was a humble, fun, loyal, ethical, principled, genuinely good, and faithful man, and he will be profoundly missed by those who loved him. We would like to give thanks with deepest appreciation to the Veteran’s Hospitals in Tampa and Lexington for their dedication to our dad’s well-being and to the Frankfort Hospice nurses and caretakers for their compassion toward our father and family. Mass will be held at 12:00pm Friday, April 30, 2021 at Good Shepard Catholic Church Frankfort with a burial to follow at Frankfort Cemetery. Please send memorial donations to Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice at 643 Teton Trail, Frankfort KY 40601. Rest in peace Dad.
