Michael Nichols McDonald, 79, of Frankfort, died Monday, February 1, 2021, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. Born the tenth of thirteen children, Mike was born March 22, 1941, in Bald Knob, Kentucky, to the late Albert and Cora Bell (Lewis) McDonald. He graduated from Franklin County High School in 1959. In 1992 he met and married his wife Karen of 28 years. They made their home in Lawrenceburg, before eventually settling in Frankfort. Mike worked as a foreman machine operator for the Frankfort Plant Board for 29 years where he eventually retired. He also worked as an Inspector at HK Bell. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life - tending to his garden, a round of golf, or an afternoon on his boat. He especially enjoyed fishing. He was devoted to his family and served them sacrificially. He could often be found sipping coffee on the back porch with his wife, Karen, or taking on a special project with one of his grandkids. Most importantly, Mike was kind. He had a calming presence, quiet strength, and a heart for helping others. He is survived by his wife, Karen Bowman McDonald of Lawrenceburg; children Terri Lynn Taylor of Frankfort, Christopher Bowman (Jessica) of Lawrenceburg, and Bronston Robinson of Frankfort; grandchildren Chris, Ashley, Gregory, Nicholas, Autumn, Summer, Clay, McKenna, Trace, Meredith, Peyton, and Anna, (10) great-grandchildren; sisters, Hallie, Shirley (Randall), and Kathy; and long-time childhood friend, David Mitchell of Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Ray “Nickie” McDonald; granddaughter Amber Lee McDonald; brothers Harry, Leon, and Arthur; sisters, Thelma, Minnie, Sarah Mae, Mary Ruth, Anna, and Madeline; and his parents, Albert and Cora Bell. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at The Point Community Church, 1142 Holmes St in Frankfort. Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd is in charge of arrangements.
