All-States Cremation - Wheat Ridge
Steven Martin
June 9th, 1977 - November 10th, 2017
Steven Jeremy Martin passed away at Vibra Hospital in Thornton on November 10, 2017, at the age of 40 of complications from a spontaneous brain hemorrhage that occurred on September 8, 2017, while he was at home in Westminster, Colorado. Known to all as “Jeremy,” he was born in Laramie, Wyoming on June 9, 1977, but had to be medically airlifted to Denver shortly after he was born. Quickly recovering, Jeremy, along with his mother Linda Susan Martin, would soon permanently relocate to the Denver Metro area, where he grew up. Settling in Westminster in the late 1970s, he continued to live in the City of Westminster until his demise. His mother Linda would go on to marry oil and gas attorney/landman John D. Simon on September 23, 1984. Jeremy’s sister Jacey Heather Simon was added to the family on September 18, 1986. In 1986, Jeremy’s mother was involved in an auto accident when another driver ran a red light, resulting in six years of treatment for TMJ complications. Linda was forced to give up her carpet-cleaning business, but she later became a Realtor after undergoing reconstructive jaw surgery. Jeremy was always a favorite of dogs, (including his own Dockie, then Bailey, and later Jack), but he earned a reputation at Linda’s realty office after her very first sale when the sellers’ dogs tried to accompany the then-teenager home by jumping into his Mom’s car. However, Linda was also first diagnosed with Late-Onset Juvenile Diabetes during routine pre-jaw surgery screening in 1991, although she wouldn’t require insulin injections for several more years. Despite struggling with dyslexia, Jeremy graduated from Arvada High School as part of the Class of 1996 and then went on to receive a Graphic Design & Computer Arts Certificate of Completion from the Jeffco School District’s Warren Tech in Lakewood the next year. After spending one semester at Front Range Community College in Westminster during the Spring of 1998, Jeremy attended Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood from the Fall, 1998 through Fall, 2000, and was awarded Three Certificates of Completion in Multimedia Technology: Graphics & Animation, Production & Design, and Web Page Design. He then transferred to Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver (later moving to Lakewood), attending college there from the Spring of 2001 through the Summer of 2002. Unfortunately, Jeremy’s mother Linda was hospitalized in 1997 and again in 2000 because of diabetic complications, and her disabilities eventually forced her into early retirement as a Realtor during this time. When her insurance coverage discontinued in-home nursing care, Jeremy dropped out of college to take over as her primary caretaker. His mother experienced declining cognitive abilities, reduced motor skills and manual dexterity, chronic leg infections, and diabetic retinitis and cataracts before she passed away at home in her sleep on March 12, 2010. Jeremy’s selflessness allowed Linda to remain at home and stay married and off of Medicaid; plus, his actions permitted his sister to remain in school and graduate from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2011. Also during this time, Jeremy managed to begin a career on the side as an Independent Land Tech in the energy business. Working on oil & gas well, pipeline, and power plant projects, he did mapping, aerial photograph analysis, record searches and filings, industrial photography, multimedia presentations, and IT. He spent some time in the field in Utah, Nebraska, and Wyoming as well as working at home, in courthouses, and in various other corporate and governmental offices around Colorado until recently. A fan of high-performance vehicles, Jeremy was a big guy (6’6”, 300 lbs.) who actually had to shop around for cars based primarily on his ability to get in and out of the driver’s seat. Never married, he was an outstanding cook and a lifetime vegetarian who enjoyed movies, comics, video games, audiobooks, and trips to Las Vegas, Nevada – although he didn’t really drink or gamble. He was known as a connoisseur of good pizza. He is survived by his sister Jacey H. Simon; by dad John D. Simon; by great-aunt Doris Giesen; by uncles Warren (Kathy) Martin, Charles (Rita) Martin, Jim Bloom & Carl Markgraf; by aunts Lisa Martin Johnson & Renée Martin; by numerous cousins; and by the faithful family cat, Parsons. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda S. Simon; by uncles John Martin & Robert Simon; by aunts Carol Bloom, Patricia Markgraf, Ann Martin & Sharon Simon; and by his grandparents.
