David C. Head

David C. Head, age 78, of Kingsport, went home to be with Jesus, on Friday, August 11, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was a proud member of Gravely Baptist Church in Kingsport and was saved in his young adult life at Gritt Hill Community Church. He was a retiree of Mead Paper (Domtar) with 33+ years of service. He enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling, but most of all loved his precious wife, Wanda. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catron and Mary Head; and 3 brothers, Master SGT. Roy E. Head, prisoner of war during the Korean War, Orville Head and General Jackson "Dick" Head. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years and 10 months, Wanda Jean Head; son, Roy A. Head and wife, Delores; granddaughters, Katarina Head and Kristina Kelly and husband, James; brother, J.C. Head; sister-in-law, Ann Wittkowski; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family would like to thank daughter-in-law, Delores Head; and friends, Wayne and Michelle Fox; for being David's special caregivers over the last several months; also a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice and Dr. Ross and staff for their care and support. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Gravelly Baptist Church in Kingsport. Funeral services will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor David Salley and Pastor Chad Roberts officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Gravelly Baptist Church at 12:00 pm on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the WMA Kingsport Hematology/Oncology Office.
