Marjorie Culbertson McConnell, 97, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on May 13, 2017 in Church Hill, Tennessee. Marjorie was born in Crossville, Tennessee to Steve and May Burgess on July 16, 1919. She married James Marion Culbertson, known as JM to friends and family, on September 3, 1938 in Gate City, Virginia. Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Steve and May Burgess; father of her children, James Marion Culbertson; son, Ronald Lynn Culbertson; grandson, Andy Culbertson; brothers , Dalton, Hillis, and Beecher; sister, Marie Burgess Dougherty. Marjorie is survived by her children, Janice Marie Reese and husband Terry, Jerold Culbertson, Lamar (Marcy) Culbertson and wife Macy, Sharon Culbertson Thorne, and Connie Culbertson; grandchildren, Jason Reese, Travis Culbertson, Leane Culbertson, Leslie Culbertson, Cindy Salyer, Heather Pace, and David Culbertson; great-grandchildren, Leah, Brandon, Grayson, Riley, Josie, Chloe, Jessie, Harrison, Madie, Shea, and Clayton. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 US Highway 23N, Weber City, VA 24290. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Buford Blankenbecker officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marjorie's family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM. The family of Marjorie wishes to acknowledge and extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Church Hill Health Care and Wellmont Madison House Assisted Living for their excellent and loving care of our Mom. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the McConnell family.
