Bobby "Bob" Stokes
June 15th, 1935 - February 24th, 2018
BOBBY (BOB) STOKES Kingsport- Bobby (Bob) Stokes, 82, of Kingsport , passed away on Saturday (February 24, 2018) at Brookdale Assisted Living Center following a lengthy illness. He was born to the late Cecil G. Stokes and Dotsie Byrd Stokes on June 15, 1935. He was a born again Christian who loved to work for the Lord. Bob was a member of Andrew Memorial Church. Mr. Stokes served his country proudly in the United States Army for 21 years. He did 3 tours in Germany, 3 tours in Korea, 2 tours in Vietnam and numerous places within the United States. Following his dedicated service, he retired from TRW in Rogersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Lane Stokes; sisters, Shelby Jean Booher, Anita Stokes, and Theresa Stokes; his brothers, Jack Stokes, Sammy Stokes, and Garland Stokes; brothers-in-law, Joe Booher and Ralph Fuller. Bobby Stokes is survived by his sisters, Mary Fuller, Brenda Wolfe and husband, Jerry, Jane Griffin and husband, Carlos; brothers, Don Stokes and wife, Betty, Tommy Stokes and wife, Melissa; sisters-in-law, Beverly Stokes, Carolyn Stokes, and Reba Stokes; numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home on Wednesday (February 28, 2018). A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday (February 28, 2018) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Rev. Roy Leedy, officiating. Music will be provided by Chris Holder. A military service will be performed by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/#265 and the VA Army National Guard following the funeral on Wednesday (February 28, 2018) at Holston View Cemetery. Ricky Stokes, Dennis Fuller, Michael Wolfe, Jerry A. Wolfe, Travis Joyner, Brian Stokes, Mitchell Stokes, and Matthew Stokes will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Booher, Jerry Wolfe, and Marty Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
