James L. "Jim" Vaughn 83, of Surgoinsville went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Jim was a faithful member of First Freewill Baptist of Surgoinsville where he served as a deacon and ran the sound system. He was a member of the church quartet for many years and worked for six years at Down Home Gospel TV Station. Jim retired from the Hawkins CO. Press after 23 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Marlin and Melissa Vaughn; sisters, Ressie Vaughn and Dorothy Vaughn; brothers, Gene Vaughn, Jess Vaughn, and Edd Vaughn; niece, Peggy Jones; nephew, J.W. Vaughn, special pet, Gilley. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years Shirley Mitchell Vaughn; daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Harris and husband, Richard; son, James L. Vaughn Jr.; step-grandchildren, Madison, Bryson, Jessica , Adam , Jamie, and Bryan; special pet, Lilly; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at First Freewill Baptist Church in Surgoinsville. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jessee Hartgrove and Bro. Ed Maynard officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am at Hawkins County Memory Gardens on Friday, February 16, 2018 with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for their loving care.
