David "Dave" Eugene Couch
July 17th, 1938 - June 13th, 2016
David (Dave) Eugene Couch, "Coach Couch", age 77, of Mt. Carmel, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and the United States Marines having proudly served in the Vietnam War. Dave was an outstanding athlete having played high school and collegiate football at Lynn View High, East Tennessee State University, and both military bases for the Marines and the Army. Following graduation from East Tennessee State University and Monticello University he began to teach and coach at various schools in the East Tennessee area but was the Sullivan South High School football and track coach for many years. Many student athletes found great inspiration in "Coach Couch." After retirement Dave continued to love sports and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He was also a community volunteer having given of his time to the Boy Scouts of America and by serving others at the Wellmont Rehabilitation Center. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family with all his heart. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. He is preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Jack and Cleo Edens Hilton; and sister, Doris Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Couch; 3 sons, David Couch Jr. (Wanda), Jon Marc Couch, and Jason Taylor Couch (Tracy); grandchildren, Jordan Couch (Lauren), Logan Couch, Gavin Couch, Bryanna Couch, Brooke Couch, Connor Couch and Lauren Couch; step-grandchildren, Jordan Gamble (Matt) and Correy Lanning (Caleb); step-great granddaughter, Taylor Gamble; sister, Gayle McGlothlin; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family, friends and former students. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. Funeral services will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating. Visitation will continue following the service with family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Holston United Methodist Children's Home in Greeneville or St. Judes Children's Hospital.
