KINGSPORT – Alene B. Nixdorf, 98, of Colonial Heights went to spend eternity with Jesus on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Brookdale Rock Springs. Alene was born in Liberal, KS to the late William B. Taylor and Nellie Fuest. She attended high school in Pratt, KS where she met her husband to be, Warren H. Nixdorf. She attended Emporia College to obtain a teaching degree. Warren joined World War II as a pilot on a seaplane submarine hunter. During that time Alene took a train from Kansas to Cocoa Beach to marry him. She did some teaching; but spent most of her life as a housewife. After the war, Warren left the Navy as a decorated Lieutenant Commander. His job took them from Texas to Louisiana to Mississippi to Tennessee to New York and finally back to Tennessee to retire after a period of 55 years. This journey involved raising two kids, five consecutive dogs and making hundreds of friends. As they settled permanently in Kingsport, Colonial Heights Christian became their church home, where Alene was active in the food pantry ministry. She participated in Bible Study Fellowship International for 9 years. She supported many ministries and missionaries. If Alene saw a person in need in her church or in her neighborhood, she was always there to help. She is preceded in death by her parents listed above, her husband Warren, brothers, Joe and Bill and a sister, Margie. Alene is survived by her daughter, Julie Beckerink (Dave), her son, Richard Nixdorf (Marjorie); grandchildren, Scott Beckerink, Eric Beckerink, Michelle Nixdorf and Chad Nixdorf (Laura); great-grandchildren, Colt and Reese Nixdorf. The family will receive friends from 5 pm – 7 pm Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Bruce Montgomery, officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, October 18, 2018 at East Tennessee Cemetery in Blountville, TN. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
