MARY “KATIE” FLEMING Kingsport- Mary Kathryn “Katie” Fleming, 87, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning (November 29, 2018). She was born in Hawkins County, TN to the late Blaine and Bessie Myers Burchfield and ten siblings. Katie lived in Kingsport most of her life. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tilden Fleming; a son Larry Fleming; six sisters, Marie Parker, Audrey Poe, Freddie Pratt, Shirley Wade, Martha Taub, and Nisi Becker; and three brothers, John-John (infant), Charles Blaine Burchfield, Jr., and Reuben Burchfield; and a special niece who was more like a sister, Eva Parker Spears. Survivors include her son, Jeff Fleming (Cristi), Kingsport, TN; daughter-in-law Linda Fleming Pelland (Guy), Largo, FL; five grandchildren, Betsy Gray (Aarron), Julie Fleming, and Mindy Thomas (Chad), Knoxville, TN, Zack Fleming (Sarah), Kingsport, TN, Katelyn Fleming, Louisville, KY; and 9 great grandchildren: Mackenzie Fleming, Drew Korzybski, Savanna Slautterback, Sydney Slautterback, Corbin Thomas, Piper Thomas, Sutton Thomas, Max Fleming Thomas, and Kylee Fleming; brother, Jimmy Burchfield, Macon, GA; special nieces who were more like daughters, Vicki Taub Runyeon of Nashville, TN and Judy Poe Baxter of Jonesborough, TN, along with many more nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street on Church Circle in Downtown Kingsport. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 pm, service at 3:00, and graveside immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. Morris Baker is officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Zack Fleming, Drew Korzybski, Aarron Gray, Chad Thomas, Jason Mayfield, and Andrew Fleming Wiles. The family requests memorial donations be directed to the Higher Ground Baptist Church Care House, 1601 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, TN (the former residence of Susan Fleming). The family would like to acknowledge caregivers Jacqueline Ciezki, Jennifer Gobster, and Karen Hickman who were nothing short of angels sent to comfort her in her final months, allowing her to pass at home as she wished.
