Larry David Harris
September 8th, 1948 - February 17th, 2019
Kingsport- Larry D. Harris, 70, of Kingsport, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday afternoon (February 17, 2019). He was born in Blytheville, Arkansas and had lived the majority of his life in Colonial Heights. Larry was a 1966 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. He was a graduate of ETSU and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Larry had a true passion for broadcasting, having worked for numerous radio stations over the years and being known as Larry “Go-Go” Harris. Mr. Harris also had a love for music, having sung in the band, The Reflections. He was principal broker for Century 21 Colonial Realtors and was very active in the Colonial Heights community. Larry was a founding member of the Colonial Heights Athletic Commission and was commonly known as “The Voice” of Sullivan South High School. He was also active with the Colonial Heights Optimist. Larry Harris was former chairman of the Sullivan County School Board where he served for over 30 years. In his later years, he worked as an account manager for Cumulus Broadcasting, where he eventually retired. He was an active member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nell Harris. Larry Harris is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathy Piercy Harris; his children, Mark D. Harris and wife, Susan, Karrie Bright and husband, Chris, Mimie Brooks and husband, Wes; his grandchildren, Katie Brooks, Alex Harris, Bailey Brooks, Will Harris, Natalie Bright, Eli Bright, and Emilee Bright; a great granddaughter, Oaklyn Frye; his brother, Michael Harris. A visitation will take place on Thursday (February 21, 2019) from 4 - 7 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church or friends may visit anytime at the residence. A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Greg Burton, officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Sullivan South Girls Basketball, 1236 Moreland Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Harris family.
