Sgt. Steve Hinkle
October 26th, 1953 - February 26th, 2019
SGT. STEVE HINKLE SGT. STEVE HINKLE Kingsport- Sgt. Steve Hinkle, 65, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (February 26, 2019) from the result of being killed in the line of duty. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a deputy with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department for over 30 years. During this time he was a certified firearm instructor, Master Patrolman, a School Resource Officer with Sullivan Central High School, proudly served on the Honor Guard, the Dignitary Protection Team, and the Mounted Patrol along with many other programs within the Sheriff’s Department. Steve was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting. He loved to go to the shooting range and most recently, enjoyed golfing with his son. Steve was a member of Holy Mountain Baptist Church and throughout the years loved to go on the Men’s Myrtle Beach Fishing Trip. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Denise Hinkle; parents, Billie and Edith Hinkle; grandparents, Wiley and Mary Wright along with several aunts and uncles. Steve Hinkle is survived by his loving children, Audie Hinkle, Mandy Hinkle, and Tyler Hinkle; his grandchildren, Dakota McClain, Steven (Sidekick) Hinkle, and Judah Hinkle; great-grandson, Corbin McClain; siblings, Kathi Boyd and husband, Art, Margaret Neal, Lori Gilbert and husband, Donnie, Lisa Clark and husband, Lonnie, Tammy Fillers and husband, Frank, Vickie Gilbert and husband, David, and Billie Hinkle and wife, April. Steve also leaves behind several nieces and nephews along with his brothers and sisters in BLUE who were truly like family to him. A celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday (March 2, 2019) at 11 a.m. at Sullivan Central High School with Pastor Tim Price, Pastor Jerry Musick, and Brother Mike Malone, officiating. A graveside service with full police honors will follow the service on Saturday (March 2, 2019) at Oak Hill Cemetery. Audie Hinkle and the Sullivan County Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, c/o Steve Hinkle Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 589, Blountville, TN 37617. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Hinkle family.
