MAUDIE HARTSOCK VAUGHN Kingsport – Maudie Annalee Hartsock Vaughn, 85 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Russell County, VA, (Grassy Creek) and had lived in Kingsport since 1949. In the early 1960’s she sold Avon and eventually retired from Food City (Eastman Road Location) where she worked in the bakery department. Maudie was an avid gardener who also loved to sew and especially bake. Mrs. Vaughn was a former member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Currently, she was an active and faithful member of Temple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Junior” Vaughn, Jr.; her parents, Claude Hartsock, Sr. and Della Grigsby Hartsock; a brother, Ralph Hartsock. Maudie Vaughn is survived by her daughters, Denise Doty and husband Al of Kingsport, Debra Doty and husband Tim of Blountville and Donna Dixon and husband Butch of Hartselle, AL; son, Dennis Vaughn of Kingsport; 14 grandchildren, Chris Isenberg and wife, Brandi of Kingsport, Josh Doty and wife, Allison of Knoxville, Kevin Vaughn of Blountville, Cindy Gough and husband Chad of Murfreesboro, TN, Jason Doty and wife Jen of Barbourville, KY, Jon Doty and wife, Alyson of Louisville, KY, Kimberly Vaughn Reeves of Blountville, Anne Doty Smith and husband Dr. Rev. David Smith of Kingsport, Noel Isenberg of Charlotte, NC, Brandon McNutt of Hartselle, AL, Brandy Dixon Schafer and husband Michael of San Diego, CA, Joni Dixon of Hartselle, AL, Boone Dixon of New Market, AL, and Abigail Dixon of Gilbert, SC; 12 great-grandchildren, Jenna Smith, Alyssa Isenberg, Sophie Gough, Ellie Gough, Lilly Reeves, Jackson Doty, Jacob Doty, John Doty, Bryson Doty, Lana Doty, Caroline (Dixon) Shaner, and Eleanor (Dixon) Shaner; her sisters, Shirley Price of Collinsville, VA, Polly Lewis and husband, Bernard of Nickelsville, VA, Judy Hartsock of Kingsport, Linda Hall and husband Leonard of Bassett, VA, Phyllis Harter and husband, Charles of Martinsville, VA, Patricia Clark of Kingsport; her brothers, Ray Hartsock and wife Doris of Blountville, Guy Hartsock and wife Louise of Bassett, VA, Fred Hartsock and wife Alma of Surgoinsville, and Claude Hartsock, Jr. and wife Patsy of Kingsport along with several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday (May 8, 2019) from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 2200 Memorial Court, Kingsport, TN or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday (May 8, 2019) at 2 p.m. at the church with Dr. Scott Young and Dr. Rev. David Smith, officiating. Eulogies will be provided by the granddaughter, Cindy Gough and her grandson, Brandon McNutt. Music will be provided by the nephew, Steve Hall and wife Lee. Entombment will follow the funeral service on Wednesday (May 8, 2019) at Oak Hill Mausoleum on Truxton Drive. This is the date that Maudie and Jr. celebrated their wedding anniversary for 68 years. Chris Isenberg, Brandon McNutt, Chad Gough, Paul Hartsock, Stephen Tester, and William Kilgore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Baker, Sam Yates, J.D. Bacon, Sam Odom, Van Jones, and Dean Trent. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 2200 Memorial Court, Kingsport, TN 37662. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Ross, Dr. Taveau, Dr. Gopalan, the 5th floor ICU Nursing staff, W-2 Nursing staff, and W-3 Nursing Staff for the special care given to Maudie Vaughn.
