Mary Ruth Anderson Pennington
April 19th, 1946 - April 14th, 2019
Mary Ruth Anderson Pennington, 72, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2019 just five days short of her 73 birthday at her residence following a lengthy illness with her devoted husband by her side. Mary was born on April 19, 1946 in the Flatwoods Community in Jonesville, Virginia to the late Lloyd Anderson and Lillian McDaniels Anderson. She was a 1965 Graduate of Flatwoods High School. She was a faithful member of Litz Manor Baptist Church until her health wouldn't allow her. Mary was a very passionate people person with an infectious smile that never met a stranger. She loved Winnie the Pooh, and had an enormous collection of Winnie the Pooh memorabilia. She was a loving and caring wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Clifton Lee Anderson, Larry Thomas Anderson, and James Lloyd Anderson; and her sisters, Patricia Anderson, Wanda Sue King, Maudie Lee Cress, and Elizabeth Jane Anderson. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 54 years, Rex Pennington; sisters, Karen Anderson and Beatrice Stapleton; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Downtown Kingsport 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN 37660. A memorial service will follow with Rev. Steve Neff officiating. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 1pm at Lee Memorial Gardens, 1986 Hickory Circle Rd, Pennington Gap, VA 24277. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50pm. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Amedysis Hospice. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, 1020 Jericho Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee 37663.
