Nancy Lu Freeman

Lexington, KY Nancy Lu Freeman, 69, of Lexington, Kentucky, died March 22, 2015. Nancy is survived by her sister Mary Jane Jones, of Frankfort; nephews Donald Ackerman, Kevin Ackerman, Evan (Molly) Jones, and Derek (Heidi Ungricht) Jones; niece by heart, Rachel Ackerman; great-nieces and nephews, Evelyn Ackerman, Ted Ungricht, and Hayden Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents Donald and Evelyn Uecker Freeman and sister Helen Jean Ackerman. Born in Lexington, she graduated from Bryan Station High School and received her education degree from Eastern Kentucky University and Rank I from Georgetown College. She was a retired history teacher and longtime yearbook sponsor and cheerleader sponsor at Tates Creek High School. She loved to travel, leading many students on European tours, and continued travelling in retirement. Nancy was an active member of the Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, KY, and was particularly fond of their many music programs. She was a member of the Altar Guild, and the current chair of the Needlepoint Guild. She was a past Regent of the Transylvania Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and celebrated the Battle of Saratoga at Freeman's Farm, Saratoga, New York. An enthusiastic flutist, Nancy played in the Capital City Community Band, the National Community Band, and the Lexington Flute Symphony. Nancy, a member of the Quilters Guild of the Bluegrass, Lexington and the Central Kentucky Quilt Guild, Frankfort was well known for her skill at quilting, needlepoint, and crafting. She leaves a legacy of handmade gifts cherished by her family and friends. Her ornaments will adorn Christmas trees for years to come. She was a Northwood Homemaker, a family tradition since 1949. Most of all, Nancy was a loving sister, proud Aunt and Godmother, and devoted friend. Funeral Information Visitation will be Friday, March 27, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. with interment of cremains in the Garden and reception to follow, all at the Christ Church Cathedral, 166 Market Street, the Rt. Rev. Carol Wade, officiant.
