Charles Arthur Moore
October 5th, 1941 - August 29th, 2020
Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant. Charles (Chuck) Moore died at home August 29 at the age of 78. From Michigan to Virgina, California to Oregon he influenced positive change in everyone he encountered. Professionally, he worked over 30 years as a public defender for Clackamas County, focused primarily on family law and juvenile cases. In our local community he announced Girls Basketball games at Gladstone High School, coached Little League baseball for Gladstone youth, attended Gladstone Nazarene and led Celebrate Recovery Program through the church. When dad started to get sick, he lost his balance getting to his car at the Courthouse in Oregon City. Paramedics were called and the EMT who helped him was one of the players he had coached as a child. The EMT recognized my dad and told him what a difference he made in his life at such a young age. My Dad thanked him and in retelling the story to his family, he cried because it meant so much to him. That was my dad. He really didn’t realize the daily impact on those around him by just being himself. The family has been posting updates on social media since he’s been ill and are overwhelmed by the outpouring of stories like this. People dad met in Law School (UCLA), those who worked with him through the court system, high school and college buddies have all commented on what a wonderful, loving, compassionate man he was. And how much it meant to them to have known him. A close family friend put it this way “He positively touched all the communities in his life, home, church, ball field, office, courthouse and countless others wherever he went. He truly was a gift from God and I feel lucky just to have known him”. Two things are comforting at this time for us. 1) knowing he is reunited with his daughter, Leah who died when she was 17. Dad would probably pick a Coltrane song but knowing Leah, she will force him to dance to the Doors one more time. 2) At least he got to see the Cubs win the World Series! *The Family: Mary Jo Moore (wife, mom), Nancy Sackett, Lori Frisk, and Charles Moore (Jr). Dad is reunited also with his beloved parents, brother & sister, and brother in law. We are not sure when a Memorial Service will happen due to the pandemic. It is something we plan to do in the future when it is safe.
