Charles "Chuck" Clayton Carruba

Charles “Chuck” Clayton Carruba, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 17, 1962, in Oak Ridge, TN, to Tony and Samantha Carruba. Chuck grew up in Kingsport, TN, where the family moved to while he was still young. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Chuck graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and later joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a Sonar Tech on the U.S.S. South Carolina and the U.S.S. Harry E. Yarnell. Later, he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree from North East State Community College where he majored in Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering Technology. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Sigma Lambda. Early in life, Chuck loved playing softball. Later on, he took up flower gardening, favoring perennials. He enjoyed spending time in the yard trying to kill weeds. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Tony Carruba; uncle, Angelo Carruba; as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Amanda Carruba; son, Jonathon Carruba; step-son, James Culbertson; beloved cat, Scooter; mother of his children, Paula Socha; his mother, Samantha Carruba; brother, Anthony “Pete” Carruba (Janet); several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Military Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA, with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 providing military honors along with eulogy provided by Pastor Randall Shupe. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 pm. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
