Dorothy Evelene Calton
October 25th, 1937 - March 15th, 2024
Dorothy Evelene (Scalf) Calton, age 86, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at Holston Valley Medical Center. Dorothy was born on October 25, 1937. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Sallie and Charlie Scalf; brothers, Ezra Scalf, Ellis Scalf and Floyd Scalf; and sisters, Mary Lou Kilgore and Phyllis Campbell. Dorothy is survived by her beloved little dog, Sassy; daughter, Neena “Calton” Woods (Ronnie/Runt); grandsons, Dustin Woods, Erik Woods (Nicole) and Chadwick Woods (Josue); great grandchildren, Lincoln Woods, Scout Woods and Ellie Woods; brother Talmidge Scalf; sister, Margie “Scalf” Carter; along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and dear friends. She was devoted member of Stateline Baptist Church in Kingsport with Pastor Wayne Morelock, whom Dorothy adores as a close, close friend and member of her family, She wanted her entire church family to know how much she loved and cared for every single member. Anyone that knew Dorothy knew how much she enjoyed singing. She and her sisters formed the Scalf Sisters Quartet and was well known in lower Appalachia. The group was reformed as the Scalf Family Quartet within the last year. In the hours leading up to her passing she was still singing her favorite gospel songs, most notably “The Old Ship of Zion.” The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at State Line Baptist Church. Friends may also visit anytime at her daughter’s home. The family would like to send a very special thank you for all the prayers and continued prayers being sent. Also, a very special thanks to the CICU doctors and nursing staff at Holston Valley Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested the memorial contributions be sent to Stateline Baptist Church via their general fund at 310 W Carters Valley Rd. Kingsport, TN 37665.
