Carroll "Turkey" Dean Short
May 25th, 1947 - September 5th, 2019
Mr. Carroll Dean “Turkey” Short, 72, of Mt Carmel, TN, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019, in the Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief Illness. He was a lifelong resident of Mt Carmel. He was the son of the late Rev. Charles and Lilly Short. Carroll graduated from Church Hill High School in 1966 where he was an outstanding football player. He graduated from King University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After he retired from MiniFibers Inc in 2015, his favorite past time was restoring Antique Cars in his garage and teaching young people the trade. He loved his family and friends with a passion and selflessly dedicated his life to them and their well being. Carroll Dean was a member of the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Kingsport Tennessee. He was an Honorably Discharged Vietnam Veteran from the United States Air force and a longstanding member of the Clay Lodge # 386, Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee. In addition to his parents, Carroll Dean was preceded in death by one sister, Delphina Short Darnell; his lifelong friend and brother in Christ Larry “Crickett” Horner. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Patricia Collins Short; One daughter, Tammi Short Cross and her husband Mark; two sons, Wesley Dean Short and partner Marcy Bible and Shannon Duane Short and partner Melissa Pippen; one brother, Charles Short and his wife Eleanor; two sisters, Fredda Walters and her husband Lowell and Sheila McMurry and her husband Darrell; four granddaughters, Alexis Short, Emily Short, Sarah Cross, and Sidney Cross; one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Kinkead; several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Carroll Dean “Turkey” Short will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday, September 9, 2019, in the Carter Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, TN. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Mike Owens officiating and music provided by Chris Holder. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Tuesday, in the Church Hill Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry “Cricket” Horner. Hammond Post 3/265 will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 9:45 AM Tuesday.
