Glenn Jones
February 13th, 1933 - March 10th, 2017
Glenn Hunter Jones, Jr. was 84 years old when he passed away on March 10, 2017 in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was born on February 13, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas to Glenn Hunter Jones and Dorothy Rae Smith. Glenn grew up in Mission, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City and graduated from Shawnee Mission High School where he was very active in athletics and student government. He attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Geology in 1956. Glenn met Diane Rae Baldwin at K.U. in 1952 and they were subsequently married at the Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO. on June 5, 1954. Glenn and Diane had three sons: Glenn Hunter III, Christopher Robert and Kelly Read, and seven grandchildren: Kristen, Cassie, Kaitlin, Hunter, Audra, Haylie and Graham. Following graduation from K.U., Glenn joined Humble Oil & Refining Company with their headquarters in Houston, TX. During his 10 years with Humble, he was located in Andrews, Houston and Midland, TX. He became a Registered Professional Petroleum Engineer in Texas in 1962. Furthermore, Glenn was an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for over 50 years. In 1965 Glenn joined the Engineering & Consulting Department of Core Laboratories in Dallas, TX. where he spent 22 years conducting various petroleum engineering assessments in the U.S. and throughout the various petroleum producing provinces of the World. Glenn was stationed on foreign assignments for several months in Paris, France, two years in Algiers, Algeria and three years in Jakarta, Indonesia. His final position with Core Lab was Chief Operating Officer of the Engineering & Consulting Department. Glenn took early retirement for Core Lab in late 1987, as the operations were moved from Dallas to Houston. During 1988, Glenn joined Gaffney, Cline& Associates, an Energy Advisory firm in Dallas and continued his petroleum engineering and management assignments for 12 more years, working on projects throughout the World’s petroleum producing provinces. Glenn was an active member and Elder of Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church in Dallas. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed life very much, often being surrounded by his family and close friends. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife Diane for 61 years, until her passing in 2015. As a father, he was totally dedicated to his three sons and their families. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Glenn is survived by sons Glenn Hunter III, and Christopher Robert, plus his seven grandchildren, and in Spirit by his loving wife Diane (who passed in 2015) and youngest son Kelly Read (who passed in 2010).
