Robert Charles “Bob” Kappius, age 83, died at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center in Littleton, CO on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He respectably passed peacefully and gracefully early in the morning. Born March 25, 1934, in Shelton, Nebraska, to Josephine and Charles Kappius, he graduated from Shelton High School in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force shortly after graduating high school. On February 6, 1954, he married Claudine Canady. He lived in many different places – including Shelton, NE, Helena, Montana, Witchita, Kansas, Bend, Oregan, Northglenn, Colorado, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Golden, Colorado – before settling in Julesburg, where he worked as a self-taught auto body repairman and automotive painter until he retired. Bob was an active member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Julesburg, Colorado and various political community campaigns. He also closely followed the National Rifle Association (NRA). An incredibly innovative mind, Bob was always passionate about improving his skills as a self-taught auto body man. He openly displayed this infatuation for mechanical manipulation by opening his very own family operated auto body shop, B & C Auto Body, in 1980 which operated for 18 years before being passed on to his son, Bart Kappius. Bob never lost his appreciation for automobiles or aircrafts. He handled any vehicle he could get his hands on until he reluctantly retired in 2014 due to health concerns. Among his love for automobiles and aircrafts, Bob loved the outdoors, specifically the mountains of Colorado. Kremmling, Colorado was among his favorite locations for hunting, camping, and hiking. All of which were events that included his wife Claudine and children Scott, Curtis, Russell, Reyne, and Bart. For all that knew him, there were always many stories of his adventures in the mountains awaiting that prize elk, cooking breakfast to an unforgettable mountain sunrise, or going for a priceless cup of coffee. Survivors include his sisters Helen Widdowson and Patricia Peterson; his wife Claudine Kappius, his children and their significant others; Scott and Jeanie Kappius, Curtis and Patricia Kappius, Russell and Karen Kappius, Reyne Kappius with Daniel Block, together with Bart and Romney Kappius. In conjunction with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, furthermore, each friend and soul that his far-reaching gentle heart touched. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center, Agape Palliative Care (Hospice), and All-States Cremation for their help and support.
