Norma King

NORMA NOLAND KING (August, 17, 1940 – December 5, 2014) fought Ovarian Cancer head on with grace and with humor for 7 years. She had dedicated her life to her family and friends and thousands of international students during the many years she taught at the University of Denver where she directed the English as a Second Language Program. A farm girl, she grew up in Waukomis, Oklahoma, attended Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma, the University of Northern Colorado where she received degrees in English, Speech and Education. She felt she lived a charmed life receiving numerous honors in high school and university and was fortunate to be able to travel to over 65 countries, many of which she promoted the University of Denver. She married Frank King in the mid 60’s, divorced and raised her two daughters in Littleton, Colorado beginning in the 70’s. Norma loved life and was open to new adventures, one of which took her to Somalia during the War in l993, where she trained teachers and helped open an English School. Her recent fond memories were spent with her family and many friends, her Writing Group, her Curves Buddies, her generous Reiki Masters and others. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Myrtle Noland and her sister Carolyn of Waukomis and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is survived by 2 daughters, Tara King of Boulder, Colorado and Sasha King, Albuquerque, New Mexico, her daughter in-law, Caeri Thomas and 4 grandchildren, Tehya and Vayla of Boulder and Amani and Taji of Albuquerque. Any memorials may be given to COCA – Colorado Ovarian Cancer Association.
