Online Obituaries for Versailles KY VERSAILLES- Kent Downey, 66, husband of Sandy Downey, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017. A native of Versailles, Kentucky, he was born on April 12, 1951 to the late Harry, Jr. and Norma Bryant Downey. A retired state employee, he served as the Director of Operations for the State House of Representatives at the Legislative Research Commission and ended his career with the Woodford County Road Department. A class of 69 graduate of WCHS, he earned his Bachelors Degree and graduated with Honors from the University of Louisville. Growing up in Versailles, Kent was passionate about serving others in his community, where he participated in several clubs and organizations, including the Woodford County Jaycees where he served as President. A lifelong Woodford County Democrat, he spent most of his youth and adult life working for and managing several successful statewide and local campaigns. He was an avid golfer and a devout University of Kentucky football and basketball fan. Over the years he spent many Saturdays at Stoll Field and Commonwealth Stadium and traveled the region cheering on his beloved Wildcats. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William (Emily) Downey and Meredith Downey, both of Versailles; his sister, Beverly Downey Mullins, Versailles; his brother, Tim Downey, Versailles; his granddaughter, Millie Downey, Versailles; and his sister of the heart Robin Joseph Richie, Versailles. Funeral Information A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4-9 p.m. at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road in Frankfort.
