Ann Martin Carlson
July 31st, 1938 - October 25th, 2016
Lexington, Kentucky Carlson, Ann Martin, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky . She was born July 31, 1938 in Chatham, New Jersey. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Edouard Whitten Martin and Charlotte Smith Martin and a sister Virginia Martin. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 48 years, Jay Carlson, a daughter, Amy (Mark) Spears, a grandson Cory Spears, a step-granddaughter Kayla McCalla (Ben), a sister Louise Martin Fackert (Mason). Ann graduated from McMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois in 1960 and attended the Mayo Clinic Physical Therapy program in Rochester, Minnesota. Upon completion of the program, she taught and worked as a Physical Therapist at the Mayo Clinic. She was selected as a trainer for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, the 1967 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, and the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. She retired from the Lexington Clinic in 1996. In retirement, Ann completed 8,000 hours of volunteer work over 16 years at St. Joseph Hospital; volunteered at numerous golf tournaments and at the Kentucky Horse Park; traveled extensively, visiting countries on six continents, including favorites, Australia and Asia. Ann was also an avid fan of baseball, particularly watching her grandson play. Funeral Information Visitation will be at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, Lexington, Kentucky Friday, October 28th, 5-8pm. The internment will take place at the Lexington Mausoleum located at the Lexington Cemetery at 12:00 pm Saturday, October 29th. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, Kentucky 40504.
