Bernard Carl Schnitker
July 29th, 1940 - May 3rd, 2011
Bernie, as he wished to be called, passed away on May 3rd at the age of 70 at his home in Lynnwood. He was born in Centralia, Illinois to Oscar and Ruth Schnitker. He was an avid gardener of the dahlia flower of which he entered in many flower shows and then became a dahlia judge. He was a member of the Maple Leaf Garden Club, Seattle Dahlia Society and Pacific Northwest Dahlia Conference.Bernie had been employed for over 15 years as an educational assistant at Edmonds Woodway High School. While employed there he implemented a horticulture program for special educational Life Skills students. Bernie was preceded in death by his father Oscar and mother Ruth. He is survived by his sister Jacqueline Schweim and husband Arthur along with nephew David Schweim (Amy) and family, and niece Joyce Donais (Don) and family; and his care giver, Steve Riggs with whom Bernie regarded as his son.
