Resident of Edmonds for 40+ years, Joe was born Dec. 14, 1927 in Maryland, where he spent his winters in Baltimore summers on Chesapeake Bay. At the age of 10 his family moved to San Diego then La Jolla, CA, where Joe would spend time body surfing, skin diving, and generally growing up at the beach water.Following the Army (82nd Airborne), Joe attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles. It was here that he met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married in 1953 and were best friends partners until her passing in 2001.Educated in Interior Design, Joe joined Walter Dorwin Teague Associates (subcontractor to Boeing) in 1967 which brought his family to Edmonds. It was with WDTA that Joe was able to travel the world and his passion for photography developed. Joe had many interests including flying, boating skiing; but took hold on him like photography.Upon retirement Joe adhered to Barbs request that he figure out a way to make his photography pay for itself. For the next 20+ years Joes work as a freelance stock photographer resulted in the sale of numerous pictures for post cards, calendars, magazine covers, etc. Joes second career kept him very active brought great joy.Joe is proceeded in death by his wife of 48 years, Barbara; sister, Dorothy; brothers, Ed, Irving, Bob. He is survived by his brother, Bill Poehlman (Betty) of Maryland, children: Paul Poehlman of Honolulu, HI; Chris Poehlman (Jackie) of Laguna Niguel, CA; and Greg Poehlman (Mimi) of Bellingham, WA. Joe also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Hailey, Lexi, Eric, Taylor, Ellie, Alex as well as Hailey Lexis mother Jyl Poehlman of Seattle, WA. Announcement: In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Northwest Harvest, PO Box 12272, Seattle WA 98102; or charity of your choice.
