Benjamin David Jacobson
June 8th, 1987 - October 28th, 2015
Online Obituaries for Lexington, Frankfort, and Versailles KY Benjamin David Jacobson of Atlanta passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at his home. He was 28. Ben was born June 8, 1987 in Lexington, KY. He was a student at Trinity Christian Academy in Lexington from kindergarten to 12th grade. He then attended Georgia Institute of Technology from 2005-2010, earning a degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, he worked as an embedded engineer for a firm in Atlanta. Ben was an exceptional piano player. He was frequently invited to play at Kentucky State Music Teacher conventions; he also performed at the Lexington Opera House and at UK's Singletary Concert Hall. Ben also loved playing soccer. But his real passion was computers. From his first Gameboy at age 10, Ben was hooked on electronics. He tinkered with anything that had a circuit board. Ben taught his elderly grandfather to use a computer and play Animal Crossing. He built surround-sound and wireless systems in his family home. In his early teens he cracked the puzzle of getting Linux and Windows to run on the same computer. At heart, Ben was a prankster. He loved playing practical jokes on his friends, in particular his long-time teacher, mentor and family friend Tim Elliott. Ben began to struggle with a mental illness around the age of 25. The night he died he was harming himself. His roommates bravely tried to help him, but there was an accident, Ben fell and was fatally injured. Ben is survived by his mother, Kathy Jacobson, of Lexington, KY, and his father David, of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind many loving relatives, including his grandmothers Margaret Boyce of Columbia, MO, and Jeanette Jacobson of Rockford, IL. Ben was preceded in death by his grandfathers Vernon Jacobson and Jim Driver. Ben's mom Kathy invites their friends and acquaintances to his funeral at Lexington Cemetery, 833 W Main St, Lexington, KY, on Saturday, November 14 at 10 AM. Following this is a Celebration of Life pot-luck lunch from 11 AM - 12:30 PM at Vineyard Community Church, 1881 Eastland Parkway, Lexington, KY.
