Kenneth Duane Kenny Hummel, 18, of Lynnwood, WA died unexpectedly Saturday morning October 27, 2012 in Pullman, WA.Kenny was born Feb. 15, 1994 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. He attended Holy Rosary School in Edmonds from kindergarten through 8 grade and graduated in the spring of 2008. His graduating class voted him Most Inspirational Student. While at Holy Rosary, Kenny was very involved in CYO athletics and participated in basketball, baseball, sor and track. The huge grin on Kennys face after he scored 20 points in a basketball game will be long remembered by those in attendance. Kenny was also involved in many other aspects of the school. He was lead drummer in the schools band and had a starring role in the 8 grade play.Kenny went on to attend Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood. He was in the National Honor Society, German Club, he served on the Link Crew and even started a club on his own, the Golf Club. He went to Germany in the spring of 2011 as part of an exchange program and literally fell in love with the country. He remained active in athletics; participating in football, baseball and golf. He developed a strong passion for golf and lettered three years for Meadowdale and during his senior year, he had earned the No.1 spot on varsity. Kenny graduated from Meadowdale in June of 2012.He was genuinely excited to attend college and after a visit to Pullman last February, he fell in love with Washington State University. He felt so comfor with the people he met there and was certain Pullman would be a great second home for the next four years. He was majoring in computer engineering and had a goal of working for an aerospace company in Germany.Kenny will be remembered for many things, but most of all, his terrific smile, his wicked sense of humor, his huge hugs, a big left-handed golf swing that smashed drives about 300 yards, his easy manner in making friends and a tremendous ability to make everyone around him smile. He was so loved by every life he touched.Kenny is preceded in death by his grandfather Duane Hummel, his aunt Susan Hummel, and his aunt Carolyn Hansen. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Lisa Hummel, his sister Cassie; his brother Lucas of Lynnwood; grandparents Howard and Linda Easton of Carthage, SD; and grandparents Kelly and Mary Ann Carlson of Bismarck, ND; and MANY uncles, aunts and cousins. Announcement: A scholarship fund in Kennys name has been set up at Whidbey Island Bank for anyone who would like to make a donation. The funds will be used for Holy Rosary, Meadowdale High School and Washington State University students who need aid for tuition, sports participation fees or other athletic and/or academic pursuits.
