Arlene Klein Quatsoe
August 8th, 1927 - May 12th, 2013
Arlene Quatsoe, longtime Shoreline resident passed away quietly on May 12, 2013 at her residence in Edmonds at the age of 85 of natural causes. Born August 8, 1927 in Bismarck, ND to Michael and Anna Glaser, Arlene spent her childhood on the family farm until work in the shipyards moved her family west for a more prosperous life. With the family sights on the San Francisco area, the Glasers made their way west, traveling through Washington State to visit friends and family members connected with their strong German heritage. Ultimately, work opportunities allowed the family to settle in the Tacoma area where Arlene attended Fife High School. Arlene spent the next several years working for several different companies in Tacoma and Seattle and eventually traveled as far south as the San Francisco area. Arlene returned to the Puget Sound area and reconnected with family and her future husband John Ken Klein. Arlene married Ken just prior to his enlistment into the marines where he served 2 years in the Korean War. They raised 4 children over the years Randy, Loranne, Michele and Thomas. Arlene and Ken built a strong family home life for their children, served as devoted members of the Saint Luke Catholic parish and eventually built their dream home, finally taking residence in 1967. Arlene became very instrumental in the homes state-of-the-art design and ahead of its time features. Arlene often modified many aspects of its layout to create a home that utilized space and systems to their fullest. 1970 brought the unfortunate death of Ken which sent Arlene back to the workforce to support her children and family home. Arlene worked as an employee of JC Penney until retiring in 1983. Arlenes home was always one of love and ptance. She often opened her home to many of her childrens friends, adopting many of them as her own over the years. Arlene married again in 1982 to John Quatsoe. During her 28 year marriage to John, they enjoyed many years traveling, spending time with family, enjoying their many grandchildren and heading south to their home in Arizona to spend the winter months. Arlene enjoyed painting, cooking, reading anything she could find and was known as the ultimate bingo player, spending over 40 years mastering the game through specific number combinations and developing a system to play more cards than any of her competitors. Her primary love was her family and loved spending time with them whenever she could. Her home was always open and available to all and she enjoyed the many hours she was able to spend with her children and many grandchildren. Arlene is preceded in death by her 1st husband Ken Klein, her 2nd husband John Quatsoe, son-in-law Steve Mackenzie and daughter-in-law Linda (Murphy) Klein. She is survived by her children Randy Klein, Lorie Klein, Shelly (Ron) Magnuson, Thom (Ingrid) Klein; her brothers Leonard (Virginia) Glaser, Milo (Pam) Glaser; stepchildren Linda Quatsoe, Jerry Quatsoe, David Quatsoe, Anne Quatsoe; grandchildren Kenneth, Taylor, Benjamin, Ryan, Jordan, Jason, Monique, Bradley, Shannon, Patrick, TJ and Lori along with 5 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
