Joan Irene Whiteley
August 27th, 1936 - August 30th, 2013
Joan was taken into the arms of her savior August 30, 2013 Joan moved to Washington in 1942. She graduated from Everett High School in 1954. After completing comptometer school she worked at Weyerhaeuser for several years. Joan and Crayton wed on April 25, 1958. This past year they celebrated their 55 wedding anniversary. Joan is lovingly remembered by her friends and family as a supportive and loyal wife, mother, sister, grandma and friend. She was a world traveler who had a strong interest in the holy land; in particular Israel. Joans passion for Israel quickly became something that she loved and desired to share with others. She orchestrated many tours to the holy land and went on 19 trips all together. Joan was very active in her church. She was a member of Alderwood Community Church for over 50 years. Joan often worked behind the scenes in kitchens; doing secret work; she was the wedding coordinator for many years and even helped with the construction of the church itself. On Sundays Joan loved teaching young children about God and worked in AWANA on Wednesdays, also teaching VBS. Outside of church, Joan continued ministering to others. She was a 22 year breast cancer survivor and gave cancer patients support and encouragement during their time of need through Uplifters ministry. She was also very active with Support 7; a ministry which is a 24 hour on call service for firefighters, police officers and families in crisis. Joan was an avid reader and she loved many other activities such as camping, gardening, sewing and bird watching. Joan is survived by her loving husband Crayton, sister Phyllis, daughters Loraine, Ann and Tracy; grandchildren Joshua, Heather, Kayla, Allison, Matthew, Ben, Hannah and Samuel along with several nieces and nephews. She lives on in our hearts until we meet again. Our family sends our heartfelt thanks to all of the wonde people who offered so much help and support. Donations in her honor may be made to Support 7 (PO Box 476 Edmonds WA 98020). Announcement: Donations in her honor may be made to Support 7, PO Box 476 Edmonds WA 98020.
